Hello, I'm Jess Shelley.

I believe that possibility is more than true and hope can be found in the darkest of places.

I'm a children's storyteller, poet and hopeful health-care writing practitioner with an interest in psychology, fairy tales, mindfulness and myths.

I won the Write Mentor #WOWCON scholarship award in 2020 for my debut #ownvoices middle-grade portal-fantasy novel 'The Whispers of the Stars' which I hope to query soon.

I have been lucky enough to have had my work published in various different places (see publications). And was a runner-up for the Terry Hetherington Young Writers Award in 2018.

Currently, I am mentored by the wonderful Lee Weatherly for my children's novel. And I've previously been mentored by the lovely Ailbhe Darcy for my debut poetry collection, which I also hope to query in the future. ('Bluebeard's Daughter looks at the recovery journey from C-Trauma and how the intertwining of psychology, narrative psychotherapy, and fairy tales can help give language to experiences where language was absent before - lending a key out of the foggy box.)

I have a BA in English Literature & Creative Writing. And an MA in Creative Writing & Teaching (where I specialized in poetry and writing for wellbeing) from Cardiff University.

I was born and currently live in Shropshire with my spectacular fiance, family, and springer spaniel puppy Fynne - who we recently discovered loves to chomp on carrots.
